Set amongst the historic cobblestone streets and sandstone buildings of The Rocks, the Rocks Markets are one of Sydney’s most enjoyable weekend experiences. The markets are a great way to experience Sydney’s local food, art and creative culture, with a colourful mix of local artisans, designers, artists and food vendors. Held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the markets offer a changing selection of stalls featuring handmade jewellery, artwork, photography, fashion, homewares, crafts and locally made products. There is also plenty to eat, with food stalls offering everything from freshly prepared street food and sweet treats to gourmet produce. The markets are spread through the atmospheric laneways of The Rocks, making the experience about more than just shopping. Take your time wandering between the stalls, explore the historic streets and sandstone buildings, and stop for a coffee, drink or something to eat along the way. The location also makes the markets an ideal starting point for exploring some of Sydney’s most iconic sights. Circular Quay, the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge are all within easy walking distance, while the surrounding Rocks precinct is filled with historic pubs, restaurants, galleries and small shops. Our tip: Allow at least a couple of hours to properly enjoy the markets. We recommend arriving earlier in the day when there is plenty of time to browse the stalls, followed by a walk through The Rocks and down towards Circular Quay. It's an easy way to combine local shopping, great food and some of Sydney's best harbour scenery in one outing.

Getting there

🚶 Walking — our recommendation! The easiest option is to walk. Head north from Bridge Street towards George Street, then continue towards Circular Quay and into The Rocks. Allow approximately 15–20 minutes, depending on your pace. It’s a pleasant walk through the heart of the CBD and into Sydney’s historic Rocks precinct.
