Sitting prominently on the corner of Oxford and William Streets, it’s an easy walk from Paddington’s boutiques, galleries and cafés and makes a convenient stop while exploring the neighbourhood.
The pub has a particularly interesting history. A hotel has operated on this site since 1848, making it one of Paddington’s longest-running hotel sites. The current building dates from the late 19th century and is recognised for its heritage significance as an enduring example of the traditional corner hotels that helped shape Paddington.
Today, the Paddo Inn combines that historic character with a lively, contemporary pub atmosphere. Its large street-facing windows are ideal for settling in with a drink and watching life unfold along Oxford Street. The venue describes itself as a neighbourhood pub centred around good food, drinks, live music and spending time with friends and family.
The menu has a strong Italian influence, with homemade-style Italian dishes supplied by il Baretto, the restaurant located at the rear of the venue. Guests can order a selection of il Baretto's dishes while enjoying the more relaxed pub setting.
It’s particularly well suited to a casual lunch, an afternoon drink, dinner with friends or a relaxed evening out. The pub also runs regular food-and-drink specials and live acoustic music, giving it a lively local feel during the week.
One of the nicest things about the Paddo Inn is its location. Paddington is known for its beautiful Victorian terrace houses, independent shops, fashion boutiques, galleries and cafés, and the pub sits right in the middle of this vibrant neighbourhood.
It's an especially good place to visit as part of a Paddington afternoon. Start with a walk along Oxford Street, explore the smaller streets around William and Glenmore Streets, browse the local shops and galleries, then finish with a drink or meal at the Paddo Inn.

Getting to the Paddington Inn from Sydney CBD
The Paddington Inn is an easy trip from the Sydney CBD, and there are several good options depending on whether you feel like walking or taking public transport.
🚌 By bus — easiest option
The 333 bus travels from the city along Oxford Street and is a convenient way to reach Paddington. From around Martin Place, the journey to Oxford Street near Paddington Town Hall takes approximately 15 minutes. From there, the Paddington Inn is just a short walk away. The 389 is another useful option from the city and travels through Paddington.
🚶 On foot — great for exploring!
Paddington is close enough to walk from the CBD. Allow around 30–40 minutes, depending on your starting point. Follow Oxford Street through Darlinghurst and into Paddington. This is a particularly enjoyable option if you want to explore the neighbourhood along the way, with plenty of shops, cafés and historic streets to discover.
🚕 By taxi or uber — quickest
A taxi or uber is generally the quickest option, taking around 5–10 minutes from the CBD depending on traffic. Ask to be dropped at the Paddington Inn on Oxford Street.
🚆 By train
You can take the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line from Martin Place to Edgecliff Station. From Edgecliff, Paddington is walkable, although the bus is generally more convenient if your destination is specifically the Paddington Inn.
Our recommendation, if you're not in a hurry, walk up Oxford Street and explore Paddington as you go. It's a lovely way to experience the transition from the city into one of Sydney's most characterful inner-city neighbourhoods.
